Innovative technology speeds incident response time in oil spill emergencies with instant data and video-sharing

HERNDON, Va – October 15, 2010 Reality Mobile® announced today it will host demonstrations of RealityVision®, its real-time visual mobile collaboration software at Clean Gulf 2010. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how RealityVision can address human safety and environmental issues during major marine spills.  Functioning as a dynamic video and data sharing network, RealityVision connects crisis management response teams and experts, regardless of location, and gives them the ability to share mission-critical information when seconds matter most.

To reduce the need to rely solely on verbal descriptions, RealityVision gives users access to a shared, immediate view of the incident using devices that many operators already deploy, such as smart phones and laptops. This means that all critical information seen in the field or on a PC screen can be shared instantly and securely with everyone who needs to see it. Operable on both cellular and satellite networks, RealityVision provides first responders and key decision makers with the ability to collectively visualize valuable assets in real-time, minimizing the response time involved in relaying information from the field to the command centers.

Recently, a major oil company successfully implemented RealityVision during a marine spill response simulation. First responders and experts were equipped with RealityVision and deployed in various locations on the water and in the air. These remote teams, as well as personnel in the central operations center and senior management, were able to tap into RealityVision’s secure network to immediately get a crisp, visual perspective of the spill. With the ability to rapidly view time-synched video and images of the simulation, the incident response team was able to quickly collaborate and diagnose the severity of the spill and make informed decisions using the most current information available. Because the visual and geographical extent of the spill changed over time, each data stream (whether video or data) was matched with a specific GPS coordinate and woven together to create a full and dynamic view of the spill as it evolved.

“RealityVision technology provides a highly mobile collaboration platform to address critical operational issues,” said Mike Odell, Vice President of Global Energy Markets, Reality Mobile. “Any data that can be displayed on a computer screen can be distributed to multiple users in multiple locations, enabling real-time access to information and instant collaboration. Whether you are in an operations center, a USCG cutter or on a remote rig in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, you can bring key personnel to the same level of visual understanding of an asset with a push of a button.”

During the largest oil spill training event and exhibition in North America, Clean Gulf 2010 will provide industry professionals with the opportunity to learn about the latest advancements in oil response, cleanup technology and training and will take place from Oct. 19-20 in Tampa, Fla.  To view a RealityVision product demo or schedule a meeting with a Reality Mobile representative at the event, visit the Chevron Booth #201 or visit http://www.realitymobile.com/schedule-meeting.
