Instant visual connection between experts, management and field teams streamlines oilfield communications

HERNDON, VA – (October 4, 2010) Reality Mobile® will demonstrate its real-time visual mobile collaboration software, RealityVision®, at the DUG Eagle Ford Conference taking place Oct. 5-6 in San Antonio, Texas.  RealityVision offers operators and service companies a proprietary, real-time visual communications network that enables users to securely transmit live video and data instantly to colleagues anywhere in the world.  As a result, when equipment malfunctions or unexpected events occur, the right experts and decision makers can be connected to the field immediately.

For instance, drilling operations in the Eagle Ford are often challenged by the need for long horizontal wells and challenging completion environments. Should an event threaten a well completion, many experts may be required to diagnose the situation and determine a solution, or an alternative completion plan. When daily phone and e-mail communications between the field team and management in the home office are supplemented with RealityVision, all experts can develop a common view of the field operation, including live video and relevant data,  without leaving their current location. In turn, travel time and costs may be decreased as experts no longer need to travel to the site. Also, the issue at hand can potentially be addressed faster than via conventional communication methods, again saving cost and reducing operational downtime.

RealityVision is designed to be easily installed and scalable. The software runs securely on commercially available hardware and most communication networks including cellular and satellite. Any number of users can connect to the RealityVision network via a range of devices most operators and service companies already have deployed, including desktop and laptop computers and smart phones. Once connected, users have the ability to push video and data from their device, as well as pull information from any connected device; including the extensive fixed-camera networks that many companies have in place to monitor remote assets.

“When seconds count, RealityVision provides oil and gas professionals access to the right people and information when and where they need it most,” said Mike Odell, Vice President of Global Energy Markets, Reality Mobile. “By allowing employees to collaborate across locations, we believe we can contribute to more efficient and productive oilfield operations.”

In its first year, the DUG Eagle Ford Conference will explore what makes the Eagle Ford one of the most economic, high return shale plays in the U.S. The conference will be held Oct. 5-6 in San Antonio, Texas.
